The Prime Minister said that it is the life of Sri Aurobindo that symbolizes another strength of India, which is one of the five vows – “liberation from the mindset of slavery”. He pointed out that despite heavy Western influence, when Sri Aurobindo returned to India, it was during his time in prison that he came in contact with the Gita and emerged as the loudest voice of Indian culture.
nationalism Of New Explanation (Aurobindo’s Cultural Nationalism)
Cultural nationalism refers to the Indian culture, which regards the soul as the truth of our being and our life as the growth and development of the soul. Nationalism refers to the feeling of the citizens of the nation living together, it is such a feeling that shows unity in diversity. The tendency to live together is inherent in Indian culture since ancient times.
Arvind wrote – “What is a nation? What is our motherland? It is not a plot, it is not a joke and it is not a pure imagination of the mind. He is a superpower, he is the embodiment of the collective powers of millions of people who build the nation. He declared that nationalism cannot be suppressed, it keeps on growing with the help of divine power. Nationalism or nationalism is immortal. Arvind said in one of his speeches – “What is nationalism? Nationalism is not a political program, Nationalism is a religion given by God, Nationalism is a principle by which we have to live. To become a nationalist, to accept this religion of nationalism, we have to follow the religious spirit to the fullest. We must remember that we are only instruments, only instruments of the Lord.
He considered nationalism as a necessary stage in social development and political development, but in the last stage his ideal was of human unity. In his own words, “The end result must be the establishment of a world state. The best form of that world state would be such a union of free nations under which all subjugation, inequality based on force and slavery would disappear. In that the natural influence of some nations may be greater than that of others, but the condition of all will be equal.
Aurobindo says that the rise of the nation does not happen suddenly, for this, special civilization and respect and cultural culture are essential, people of common thoughts together form a broad structure, which develops a code of rules and political unity is born.
internationalism And nationalism
Along with nationalism, Aurobindo also believed in internationalism, each state should be independent, should get opportunities to play a constructive role in the world community, he had imagined a world community and world rule even before the UNO came into existence. Aurobindo’s nationalism It contained inter-nationalism and humanity.
They believe that all the human beings of the world are part of the same vast world consciousness. That’s why there is a part of the soul in all human beings. Then how is there conflict or opposition among them? In the words of Aurobindo, a mysterious consciousness pervades the whole world. It is a divine reality. It has united us all.
Aurobindo’s nationalism was not a narrow nationalism in any form. Arvind had said that “Nationalism is necessary for the social and political development of man. Ultimately, the unity of human beings should be established through a world federation and the spiritual foundation for achieving this ideal can be built only through human-religion and the feeling of inner unity.
Sri Aurobindo had envisioned a world community and a world state even before the United Nations came into existence. Sri Aurobindo in his book The Ideal of Human Unity propounded the philosophical form of this world state and emphasized its necessity.
nationalism of Spiritual Form
Theoretically, nationalism is a psychological and spiritual idea. This feeling of nationalism is based on ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbkam’, the basic foundation of Indian culture. They believe in the unity of India on cultural basis, their form is not religiosity in the narrow sense. According to him, despite the diversities, there is an inseparable thread of unity in Indian history. Sri Aurobindo’s approach to nationalism was culturally diverse and syncretic.
He remained in the field of active politics only for about 4-5 years, but in this short period he gave a form to nationalism which no other person could provide. Initially, he became the pioneer of that nationalism and later after moving to Pondicherry, his nationalism became completely established on the spiritual plane. But there was a close relationship between both the stages, the only difference was that the second stage became fully vocal later. For Aurobindo, his nation India was not just a geographical entity or a natural piece of land. He considered the country as his mother, worshiped and worshiped it as a mother. He made a touching appeal to the countrymen to bear all kinds of hardships for the protection and service of Mother India.
Aurobindo warned that if we Europeanise ourselves, we shall lose forever our spiritual potential, our intellectual strength, our national elasticity and power of self-regeneration. Aurobindo told the countrymen that eternal power resides in the soul and words like ‘difficult’ and ‘impossible’ would disappear in the communication of soul-power.
Sri Aurobindo wrote in “Vande Mataram”- “What is nationalism? Nationalism is not merely a political programme. Nationalism is a religion that has come from God and with which you have to survive. We are all instruments of the divine part. Therefore, we have to evaluate nationalism from a religious point of view. In the words of Dr. Radhakrishnan, Sri Aurobindo was the greatest intellectual of our age. India will always be grateful to him for his invaluable work towards politics and philosophy.
