After independence……
Copperplates were awarded in honor of freedom fighters. The first copper plate ceremony was held on August 15, 1972 at the Diwan-i-Aam of the historic Red Fort in Delhi. Similar functions were held in the States and Union Territories from time to time.

Moje Riba (1890–1982) was an Indian freedom fighter who contributed to the Indian independence movement and was the first person to hoist the Indian national flag in Arunachal Pradesh after independence on 15 August 1947. On 15 August 1972, he was received by the then Prime Minister of India, Smt. Was honored with a copper plate by Indira Gandhi for her sacrifice and contribution in the freedom movement. He died in 1982 at his residence in Daring village.
